ALMATY – High-level representatives from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Turkey will examine regional policy responses to the economic crisis at a UN Ministerial Conference jointly organized by four U.N. agencies (the ILO, UNICEF, FAO and UNDP) and hosted by the Government of Kazakhstan in Almaty (Kazakhstan) on 7-8 December.
The Conference will gather Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs and senior officials from the Ministries of Labour, Finance/Economy and Agriculture from 13 countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan) of the region, high-level representatives of the United Nations system, international and regional financial institutions (IFIs), regional organizations, bilateral cooperation agencies, international employers' and workers' organizations, civil society and regional academia. On 25th of November in the Akimat of Almaty city took place a round table “UN in Kazakhstan” with participation of the deputy akim, Mr. Seidumanov Serik Turarovich, and the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Haoliang Xu. At the round table the specialists of the UN Country Team presented their reports on progress of the Millennium Development Goals achievementand UNDAF implementation for 2005-2009. This is the 3rd round table in 2009 jointly organized with Akimat in order to promote awareness about the UN activity in the country among government officials.
ASTANA, 23 October 2009. 24th of October is worldwide celebrated as the UN day and on this occasion the UN Representative office in RK and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RK jointly organized a round table to discuss results achieved over the past 5 years in the framework of the UNDAF for 2005-2009. The representatives of the Government mostly presented at the senior level, diplomatic corps and other representatives of international donor organisations, as well as heads of UN agencies from Almaty and Astana attended the event. The event opened the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kairat Umarov, and the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Haoliang Xu.
ASTANA, 21 October 2009. Every year, on 24 October, the United Nations celebrates its birthday, with this regard the United Nations Representative office in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Eurasian University named after L.N. Gumilev agreed to celebrate this day by organizing a round table for teaching staff, master students and students in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the UN and the ENU on 22 October in 2008. This year the round table was devoted to the “Millennium Development Goals”, which were signed by 191 states, including Kazakhstan in 2000 in New York, and in particular to the Goal #7 “Ensure environmental sustainability”. The rector of the ENU and the UN Resident Coordinator opened the Seminar speaking about the importance of the event. The representatives of the ENU took an active part in the discussion followed the presentations prepared by the UN team.
