On 16 May 2012 an annual UNDAF review meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Representatives of sectoral ministries, private sector, and civil society and UN agencies gathered together to take stock of what has been accomplished jointly in the past year, share experiences and lessons learned, and talk about future plans.

3 May 2012 - This is the message of World Press Freedom Day. Media freedom entails the freedom to hold opinions and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers, as stated in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This freedom is essential for healthy and vibrant societies.

Commemoration Ceremony was held on Tuesday, 10 April 2012 in the UN Houses in Astana and Almaty. During the Ceremony UN colleagues observed a minute of silence led by UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Stephen Tull.

Each year on 7 April, we observe World Health Day to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization in 1948. This year’s theme, "Good health adds life to years", conveys an important message: promoting good health throughout life improves one’s chances of remaining healthy and productive in one’s later years.

Nowruz marks the first day of spring and is celebrated as the beginning of the new year by more than 300 million people all around the world and has been celebrated for over 3000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and other regions.

International Women's Day (8 March) is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. When women on all continents, often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate their Day, they can look back to a tradition that represents at least nine decades of struggle for equality, justice, peace and development.

On 2 of March 2012 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan together with the UN system in Kazakhstan hosted a ceremonial meeting devoted to the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's accession to the United Nations.

On 15 february 2012 in Almaty – Conference “Kazakhstan and the UN: 20 years of cooperation” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the accession Kazakhstan to the UN took place at the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.

Press-conference, dedicated to 2011 Human development Report took place in Astana today. UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative Stephen Tull and Yuryi Shokamanov, Head of the Department of national accounts presented the basic tendencies in the development of Kazakhstan as reflected in the global report.

A roundtable to mark the UN Day in the framework of celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Kazakhstan took place on 24 of October, 2011 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In celebration of United Nations Day, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan Mr. Stephen Tull and Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Prof.Dr. Mutanov Galimkair Mutanovich will sign a Memorandum of Understanding at the official signing ceremony in Almaty on 20 October 2011.

GENEVA – The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to education, Kishore Singh, will visit Kazakhstan from 12 to 20 September 2011 to collect first-hand information on the situation of education in the country, with special focus on the authorities’ efforts to guarantee quality education and to ensure equality of opportunity in education.

Almaty, 28 July 2011 – Today the Geneva Refugee Convention enters its 60th years. Forced displacement in the world becomes increasingly complex, as developing countries struggle to host the large majority of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons.

On 20 June countries around the world will observe the tenth World Refugee Day (WRD). This year, WRD coincides with the 60th anniversary of the UN Convention relating on the Status of Refugees and the 50th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness. The theme of commemoration is “One Refugee Without Hope is Too Many”.
