MDGs in Kostanai oblast

                               On 27 August 2009 a round table “Millennium Development Goals in Kazakhstan” took place in Kostanai. The event was organized by the Akimat of Kostanai oblast. The deputy akim, Mr. Bekturganov Serik Chingizovich, moderated the round table. Mr. Haoliang Xu (UN Resident-Coordinator) and Mr. Zheken Kaliuly (Association for UN support) opened the event. Representatives of UN agencies and the Akimat departments of education, health, internal policy and social protection, as well as civil society members took part in the round table.  There was a lively discussion of progress on millennium development goals in Kazakhstan and Kostanai oblast in particular. Special attention was paid to issues of child and maternal mortality, HIV/AIDS and TB and environmental sustainability.
